Statement on NMSP's Decision not to participate National Convention
December 12, 2005
We, the undersigned overseas Mon organizations, welcome the New Mon State Party's decision not to participate further in the SPDC-sponsored National Convention, since the views and proposals of the delegates in previous sessions of the Convention have been ignored and free and open discussion has not been allowed. We sincerely believe that the NMSP made the right decision and one that represents the best interests of the entire Mon people both abroad and in our homeland.

Nai Ong Lorn, A Mon Political Prisoner died.
A Mon political prisoner, Nai Ong Lorn, who was arrested with Nai Yekha with the accusation of trying to assassinate the Burmese military leaders died.
He died about 9:00 in the morning of yesterday and military government leader sent information to NMSP authorities to conduct his funeral ceremony.more
Havel, Tutu urge action on Burma
The former Czech president, Vaclav Havel, and the retired South African archbishop, Desmond Tutu, have sent a seventy-page report to the United Nations Security Council calling for reforms in Burma.
The report said the situation there was more severe than in several other countries in which the Security Council had intervened. Read the report
A Mon prisoner in Mawlamyaing "died of torture"
The wife of a political prisoner who died in custody says her husband was beaten to death.
Furthermore, the prison authorities cremated the body without the family's knowledge.
Min Tun Wei is Mon and a menber of NLD from Kyaikmayaw Township in Mon State. He was arrested on 26 May and sent to prison on 28 May. He was said to have died two days later at Mawlamyaing Prison.more
Amnesty spotlights forced labour and humna rights abuses in Burma
Burma's military has forced tens of thousands of ethnic minority people
into labor, confiscated their land, destroyed their homes and beaten them,
Amnesty International said in a new report Thursday.
In some areas the vast majority of young people have left their villages in
order to work in Thailand. One Mon man from Hpa’an township, Kayin State,
told Amnesty International about the situation in his village:

Political Prisoner Nai Yekha barred to get foods from his family
Nai Yekha, who was sentenced for life by regime after he was arrested with
accusation of trying to assassinate SPDC’s military leaders, has been in
unhealthy condition and he has been barred to get foods from his family
and medical care. “Now he was allowed only a half amount of food and
medicine of the previous months.
